In case you were wondering how we started . . .


Knowing how much our friends and family enjoyed scented candles, we decided to give candles as Christmas gifts in 1999. Not wanting to give just another candle, we chose to make them ourselves. It took some trial-and-error but we were pleased with the final result. Our friends and family were so pleased that they encouraged us to start selling our hand-poured scented candles. We agreed and 'Islander Scents' came to be.

All candles were hand-poured in our garage in Poquoson, Virginia. Prior to September 2004, we mostly sold our candles from home, the internet and festivals.

In September 2004, we opened our retail shop, Islander Scents Trophies & Engraving. In November 2006, we moved to 796 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, Virginia. At the time, we offered hand-poured scented candles, candle accessories, candle gift sets, trophies, plaques, medals, engraved crystal, engraved pewter and much more.

We moved in 2009 to 501 Wythe Creek Road, Suite 102. Our most recent move, July 2016, was a short one - to 492 Wythe Creek Road (at the corner of Hudgins & Wythe Creek Roads).

We continued to offer our hand-poured scented candles through 2010. In 2011, we decided to focus on the trophies, awards and custom laser etching and stopped selling candles.

Since that time, we have focused our efforts on improving our skills for laser etching photographs and logos/graphics.

We are much more than a trophy shop and encourage you to come in and see all of the personalized products and gifts we offer.

Our friends and family are always there to help, making Islander Trophies a true family business.
